Correct position for woodruff key in a JB 128 engine

Fråga: Hello, As I wrote in the Classic Motor forum, we need help to get JB 128 engine run again. It run few days again but then stopped. We think that the torgue has moved the shaft.

So we have this question: when the piston is in upper dead position, then in which position must the woodruff key be (on the magneto side): 9 o’clock, 6 or 3 o’clock? This is the situation right now (see picture above).

Svar: The keyslot, or keyway, in your crankshaft is placed 180 degrees wrong. I think that the shaft has turned in the crankshaft. This happens sometime. The correct position of the keyslot on the ignition (magneto) side can be seen in the picture below – i.e. 3 o’clock. If the shaft have become loose you can weld it in place from the backside of the counterweight.

This is the correct position for the keyslot in the JB 128 crankshaft (I checked on several shafts to be sure)
